The Collaborative Research Centre researches shape memory technology from product innovation to sophisticated applications in mechanical engineering and medicine.
In the Collaborative Research Centre “Shape Memory Technology”, an interdisciplinary group from the engineering and natural sciences is working together. The aim is to advance the field of shape memory technology, for instance from a product innovation perspective and in the area of sophisticated applications in mechanical engineering and medicine.
To achieve this, the foundations of the field must first be reworked, and this is where the planned research activity in the first funding phase comes in; there is and never has been a lack of visions in the field of shape memory technology, some of which have become known in spectacular ways. However, the innovative forces that have brought the field to its current state have left gaps in the technological field that must be closed before a broad breakthrough is possible.
The focus of the planned work in this research project is on the integration of material production and manufacturing techniques into function-related constructive design and on the symbiosis of different research disciplines, which is particularly important for this field of research.
