Explore Aristotle 2.0

The ALIVE project focuses on Avicenna, a great figure in intellectual history.

The Arab scholar Avicenna (Arabic: Ibn Sīnā) is a highly interesting personality: little known in this country, his work from around the year 1000 is still considered groundbreaking and pioneering in the Arab world today. His work is the focus of the ERC project "Avicenna Live: The Immediate Context of Avicenna's Intellectual Formation" - in short: ALIVE by Prof. Dr. Andreas Lammer.

Avicenna was a physician, philosopher, scientist, mathematician and much more - a universal genius. Avicenna revised Aristotle's philosophy, developed it further and finally brought it together on over 6,000 pages into a synthesized and - at least according to the intention - contradiction-free system. In his project, Lammer is networking with colleagues from all over the world, from Indonesia to Canada.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Lammer

Andreas Lammer has held the professorship for Arabic Studies with a focus on the history of knowledge at Ruhr-Universität Bochum since January 2025.
