Grantee Professor Alexandra Cuffel

Professor Alexandra Cuffel, member of the Center for Religious Studies, has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant.

Alexandra Cuffel studied history in the USA and England and obtained her doctorate at New York University in 2002. She did research, among other places, at Harvard Divinity School and as a guest researcher at Bochum’s Käte Hamburger Kolleg “Dynamics in the History of Religions between Asia and Europe”. Since 2012, she is a professor for Jewish Religion in Past and Present Times at the Faculty of History. She is also a member of the Directorate at the Center for Religious Studies (CERES).

In her ERC Grant, she researches Jewish and Christian encounters outside Europe. The project starts in 2015.

Coexistence of Jews and Christians

How Jews and Christians encountered each other and lived together from the end of late antiquity is the research question of this project.
