The researcher is an assistant professor of classical archaeology with a focus on archaeometric applications.
Vilma Ruppiene first studied German language and literature in Kaunas, Lithuania, and then classical archaeology, mineralogy, and geology in Würzburg. In 2014, she completed her doctoral degree there and subsequently worked as a research assistant on various archaeological and archaeometric research projects. In 2021, she received a research fellowship from the German Archaeological Institute for the research project “Incrustations from the Area of the North Theater in Gadara, Jordan: Studies on the Diversity, Use, and Origin of Natural Stones.” Since August 2021, she has been an assistant professor of Classical Archaeology with a focus on archaeometric applications at Ruhr University Bochum.
As part of her ERC grant, Vilma Ruppiene – under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dominik Maschek of the Leibniz Center for Archaeology in Mainz – is researching Roman buildings as an archive for material, social, and environmental history.
