Cultures & Societies in Transition

Cultures and societies undergo transformation processes - both in the past and today. Thanks to its broad spectrum of subjects in the humanities and social sciences, RUB is in a position to investigate these phenomena at the highest scientific level.

Models for concepts of the future in East Asia, manifestations of virtuality, religious meaning formation in and through metaphors, truth production and truth enforcement or aesthetics and care in infrastructures - the topics that are at the forefront of Bochum's research into cultures and societies and their transformation are diverse and are strongly based on interdisciplinary cooperation. What they have in common is that they provide essential questions and answers to today's challenges and contribute to the sustainability of our society.

DFG-funded measures

Collaborative Research Centers

The virtual world is increasingly becoming normalised. The implications and consequences of this trend are being explored by more than 50 researchers in this Collaborative Research Centre.

The innovative core of the Collaborative Research Center lies in the fact that it focuses on metaphoricity as a central principle of religious meaning formation.
