Andreas Lammer has held the professorship for Arabic Studies with a focus on the history of knowledge at Ruhr-Universität Bochum since January 2025.
Andreas Lammer studied Philosophy and German Studies at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg between 2005 and 2008. from 2008 to 2009, he completed a master's program in philosophy at King's College London. He completed his doctorate in philosophy and Arabic studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2018. From 2018 to 2022, he was Assistant Professor of Arabic Philosophy, Culture and History at the University of Trier. Between 2022 and 2024, he was Associate Professor of History of Philosophy at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. in 2025, he took over the Chair of Arabic Studies with a focus on the History of Knowledge at the Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Philology at Ruhr University Bochum.
His ERC project is about the Arab scholar Avicenna, whose writings, which he wrote around the year 1000, are still considered groundbreaking today. It started in 2024.
