Grantee Professor Frank Uekötter

Frank Uekötter heads the Chair of History of Technology and the Environment at the Ruhr University's Faculty of History.

Frank Uekötter studied history, social sciences and political science at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau, Bielefeld and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore from 1990 to 1997. In 2001, he received his doctorate from the University of Bielefeld. Between 2003 and 2006, he worked at the Department of History at Bielefeld University, where he conducted a research project on the priority program "Science, Politics and Society. Germany in an International Context in the Late 19th and 20th Centuries" of the German Research Foundation.

From 2006, Uekötter was a Dilthey Fellow at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. In 2009, he completed his habilitation in Bielefeld. From 2008 to 2011, Uekötter was Deputy Director of the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich and then LMU Fellow. in 2013, he moved to the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. in 2023, he was appointed to the Ruhr University.
