Smart Systems & Sustainable Engineering

The rapid pace of technological change is bringing about changes for people, processes and organizations, and it is becoming increasingly important to keep an eye on sustainability.

Whether smart systems and how they work, the reuse of components or new tool geometries using lasers and robots - the aim is always to consider the entire life cycle of technologies from development and production to sales and use. The focus is not only on the innovations brought about by the technology, but also on the necessary social change processes, i.e. the transfer of knowledge and technology plays an important role. The team at the Research Center for the Engineering of Smart Product-Service Systems (ZESS) is dedicated to this goal and serves an innovation ecosystem of science, business and society.

Research building

Forschungsbau ZESS

Researchers at the Research Center for Smart Product Service Systems tackle questions pertaining to industry 4.0.

DFG-funded measures

Collaborative Research Centers

The aim of the project is to reuse the concrete parts of old buildings for new ones.

In this Collaborative Research Centre, researchers develop methods and models for describing the reaction of solid fuels in an oxy-fuel atmosphere.

Research group

Heißes Metall mit sprühenden Funken

Laser cladding enables a type of 3D printing with metals. Researchers want to get even more out of the technology than before with the help of computer simulations and robot technology.

ERC Grant

Wasserstoffsymbol im Periodensystem

In order to get hydrogen into widespread use as an energy carrier, it is necessary to scale up production processes. In the ERC project, the required basic research will be conducted.
