Centre for Protein Diagnostics (ProDi)

The Centre for Protein Diagnostics – ProDi for short – is located at the Bochum health campus. It forms the bridge between Ruhr University Bochum, University Clinics, and the health care sector.

ProDi strengthens the research network Protein Research Unit Ruhr within Europe – PURE. The PURE consortium develops innovative methods for the early diagnosis of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The total costs of the construction and the basic equipment totaling 48 million euros are borne by the federal government and the state of NRW. The construction phase began in November 2016. ProDi has opened June 3, 2019.

Good to Know

Research buildings are designed to improve the infrastructural conditions at higher education institutions in Germany. These institutions can thus boost their ranking on the national and international level. Eligible for funding are buildings at higher-education institutions with investment costs in excess 5 million euros the infrastructure of which is primarily used for research purposes.

The funds are disbursed by the Federal Government and the federal states in equal shares. Competing with other institutions for the establishment of such research infrastructure of national significance, Ruhr University Bochum has acquired funds amounting to approximately 250 million euros to date.
