Guideline
Our guideline sets out the conditions under which we carry out animal experiments and how we treat our laboratory animals. We are committed to the best possible animal welfare, weigh up ethical aspects and live our responsibility. We provide transparent information about our work. We fully comply with legal regulations and support the work of the authorities.
3R principle
Even though animal experiments are indispensable in research, there is a consensus that they should be kept to a necessary minimum. The 3Rs principle applies as a guideline: Replace (avoid), Reduce (reduce) and Refine (improve).
Transparency
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the University Hospital of the Ruhr-Universität have committed themselves to providing transparent information about animal experiments. They are members of the "Transparent Animal Experiments Initiative ", which was launched in July 2021 by the German Research Foundation and the information platform " Understanding Animal Experiments" founded by the Alliance of Science Organizations. Ruhr-Universität Bochum is aware of the ethical dimension of animal research and would like to enter into a dialog with the public on this topic.
