Within the framework of various specialist programmes, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) enables young researchers to raise funds for their own groups.
Lichtenberg Professorships were awarded to help universities recruit outstanding researchers in high-potential research fields, which however present some uncertainties. The funding program has since expired. Ruhr University Bochum was home to two Lichtenberg professorships.
With this programme, the land of NRW makes it easy for researchers to return after international exchange and helps them set up their own research group.
