Junior Research Groups

Ruhr University Bochum promotes early academic independence. Its numerous junior research groups provide the best possible conditions therefor.

The programme enables highly qualified early career researchers to qualify for a university professorship by taking charge of a junior research group.

With this award, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports successful early career researchers who are setting up a workgroup.

Within the framework of various specialist programmes, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) enables young researchers to raise funds for their own junior research groups.

Lichtenberg Professorships are awarded to help universities recruit outstanding researchers in high-potential research fields, which however present some uncertainties.

With this programme, the land of NRW makes it easy for researchers to return after international exchange and helps them set up their own research group.

In interdisciplinary collaboration, the research groups study major social challenges, such as climate protection, sustainable production, health, demographic change, and social soli.
